The Am I Hungry? facilitator training "sealed the deal" for me. Any questions I had about this approach were completely erased. It prepares facilitators completely and confidently to take this message of eating and living to the public. The materials are comprehensive and excellent. I know that I will be using this information for the rest of my career as a Family Physician and for the rest of my life personally. I (and hopefully all of my patients and participants to come) will never diet again!

Lori Hurst, M.D.

I now feel well prepared to share the Am I Hungry? process with as many folks as I can.   - Mike Ford, Alaskans In Charge

The facilitator training was "complete." Michelle, you left no topic untouched and ample time for questions and clarifications. The participants who came from various backgrounds made the training even more satisfying and interesting. Being able to practice the skills we will be teaching firsthand was a spectacular demonstration of the power of the messages of the Am I Hungry?® Program. I left the training energized to start this new venture and felt more than adequately prepared to run my first workshop. The post-workshop support has been outstanding. What a great group of people to have met and trained with.  Many thanks.   - Ramona Seidel, MD

Wonderful training. The Am I Hungry?® staff works together beautifully and are very approachable. Course content excellent and informative. My participants have remarked several times how well the program is written and put together. What satisfaction when you see progress being made!    - Kim Vitellaro

"I know what I should be eating, but I just don't do it." This is a quote from many of my nutrition clients. I finally began to really understand that the gap between knowledge of nutrition and application was behavior. The Am I Hungry?® Facilitator Training program gave me exactly what I was searching for: a complete step by step process to aid my clients in nutrition and weight loss focusing on what is really important, and the only answer to health and longevity - changing our mind set.   - Laurel Puszert, B.S. Nutrition

This program and the training were completely transforming for me.   - Reva Kaufman

Impressively well-organized. Michelle is genuine, polished, spontaneous- an excellent communicator!   - Mary Delduca, M.D.

As a health professional who has also had gastric bypass surgery, I quickly realized that they didn't staple my brain! The Am I Hungry? principles apply well to bariatric surgery patients and help them better use their tools and strengths to ensure optimal health.   - Janine Kyrillos, M.D.

The Am I Hungry?® Facilitator Training was an incredibly rewarding experience, both personally and professionally. This intensive three day workshop opened my mind to my own issues with food and it taught me to use my "instincts" when dealing with those issues. Am I Hungry?® is an intriguing and fascinating yet unique approach to weight management.   - Jane Kelley, Manager of Health Education, CIGNA Medical Group

Beyond my expectations. Michelle is a terrific instructor and the materials are more thorough and well put together than I could have hoped for. I feel well prepared to start a group as soon as I return home.   - Gillian Hood-Gabrielson, M.S., Certified Wellcoach

Obesity is the new epidemic in this country, and as a family physician, I see all the complications - hypertension, diabetes, and premature arthritis and joint pain. The response to my first workshop was tremendous.   - Patrick Flyte, MD

Jammed packed three days full of information and activities. I'm going home with a full brain, happy heart and awakened muscles!   - Sue Valenzuela, R.N.

Why should you consider this weight management approach?
Isn't it obvious? The Emperor Has No Clothes!

Weight management is complex, involving genetic, metabolic, physiological, cultural, social, and behavioral factors. On the surface, the solution appears to be straightforward - decrease the number of calories consumed, and increase the number of calories used, and weight loss will result. However, while more is known now than ever before about it's molecular, genetic, and biologic determinants, the incidence of overweight and obesity has continued to rise.

This burgeoning problem has been correlated with a host of factors, among them, readily available calorically dense foods, increase in portion sizes, decrease in physical activity, and increase in sedentary lifestyles, among others. Undoubtedly these are all important contributors, but the unprecedented attention to them so far has had little appreciable affect on this epidemic.

In fact, our society has become obsessed with weight and dieting. Nearly one half of U.S. women and more than one third of men report that they are trying to lose weight at any given moment in time. Many people are desperate to lose weight, making them easy targets for a billion-dollar diet industry.

The striking reality is that diets are not very effective in the long run anyway. Accurate statistics are very hard to come by but it is widely quoted that 90-95% of dieters regain their lost weight. Whatever the true numbers, if dieting was truly effective, the problem would have been solved with the first one.

In fact, many dieters experience a gradual increase in their weight over time. In essence, this is a microcosm of what we are seeing on a societal level. It is time to consider the possibility that the therapeutic interventions may have unwittingly contributed to the problem.

It is time to move away from promoting ineffective dieting and instead teach our patients and clients to use their instinctive ability to feed themselves an appropriate amount of food. This innate skill, coupled with accurate, non-diet nutrition and fitness information and skills, can help them finally break out of the weight gain-diet-weight gain cycle.
